Introduction

PainSA is a chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). Our mission is to improve the management of pain in all its aspects in Southern Africa by promoting an understanding amongst the healthcare community that the management of pain needs a team approach.

This PainSA Annual Congress is attended by all disciplines and allied professionals that are involved in pain management. The Congress starts on Friday, 12 May 2017 and concludes on Sunday 14 May 2017. We anticipate and are looking to attract between 200 – 300 delegates to the Congress.

The 2017 PainSA Congress will be held at Century City Conference Centre & Hotel, No. 4 Energy Lane, Century City, Cape Town. The Congress Committee has selected Century City Conference Centre & Hotel as it is centrally located in relation to the greater Cape Town metropole, with easy access from the CBD, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and the Southern, Northern and West Coast suburbs. Its situation on the N1 also provides convenient access to the Cape Town International Airport, and the Cape Winelands.

The programme will cover a variety of pain-related topics and will include two workshops on Friday 12 May.

Guidlines

  • Presenting authors of abstracts must be registered and paid participants. Congress registration must be received by Velocity Vision by March 30, 2017 in order to be scheduled for presentation.

  • Abstracts must be original and must not be, or have been, published or presented at any other local meeting prior to the 2017 PainSA Congress.

  • Abstracts must be submitted in English.

  • Abstracts must have a word count of no more than 250 words.

  • Abstracts must be received by the announced deadline. Abstracts received after the deadline will not be considered.

  • The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the PainSA Congress Organising Committee.

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts –Friday 3 March 2017
