Historically, natural products are one of the oldest chemical areas of investigation and have been an inspiration for several Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Medical and Ecological research fields. From the elegance of a single structure to the intricacy of complex molecules, the diversity of natural compounds have been the subject of classical phytochemical and chemotaxonomy studies and of modern metabolomics and biosynthetics approaches alike, looking to produce relevant biological and pharmacological models to afford new therapeutic agents for human and animals disease or for agriculture evolution.
