Introduction

Since 2011, when it was held for the first time, the Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc has established itself as an open platform which is not limited only to an academic exchange within translation and interpreting studies research but embraces discussion with all players in the field of cross-language communication (see archive for TIFO 2014, 2012 and 2011).

The 2017 conference theme "Translating the Wor(l)d: Beyond Language" reflects upon the fact that translation has become a major communication modality of the post-modern globalized world. The conference aims at mapping the landscape of this specific human activity by exploring the increasing complexity of language communication. The featured guest speakers for TIFO 2017 are Franz Pöchhacker (University of Vienna) and Aline Remael (University of Antwerp).
