It has now been 30 years since the cuprates were discovered. These superconductors have critical temperatures half that of room temperature. That was all it took to grab the attention of scientists desperate to understand, control and exploit this quantum state.
After three decades of intense research, it is fair to say that the community has now a better understanding of what really promotes high temperature superconductivity. We also now have some control over this novel phase thanks to new techniques that allow engineering of synthetic materials. But more importantly, we know that once it reaches its full potential, superconductors will remould the world as we know it.
The 2017 Superconductivity Gordon Research Seminar will be focused on a central question: how can we rationally understand and control correlated and competed phases to reveal the origin of unconventional superconductivity? This seminar gives a unique chance to bring together young scientists to present their work in a non-intimidating environment. Lead by selected mentors, each participant will have the opportunity to interact with a group of inspired peers from all around the world. It will provide a fruitful environment to develop strong collaborative relationships. We strongly encourage young scientists to apply to this seminar as soon as possible.
