Introduction

We are pleased to announce that the 5th International Symposium on Atmospheric Light Scattering and Remote Sensing (ISALSaRS’17) will be held in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China during June 19-23, 2017.

The ISALSaRS is held every two years for a period of 5 days in the form of presentation and discussion focusing on light scattering and remote sensing in the atmosphere. Light scattering and radiative transfer are fundamental and critical for quantitative understanding of the observed data, which also leading the development and the application of the active and passive remote sensing techniques for both ground-based and space borne instruments. Since last meeting in Wuhan, China in 2015, we are very glad to see that much significant progress has been made on above mentioned issues. To exchange and share the latest research and enhance international collaboration, ISALSaRS’17 will be held and the topics will follow the history of this symposium and also be extended by adding the researches on aerosol, cloud and precipitation spectral measurements, and turbulence and laser propagation. The symposium welcomes researchers from the world to report their latest results and discuss future directions of the light scattering and remote sensing.

The ISALSaRS’17 is organized by the Lab for Atmospheric Observation and Climate Environment Research, USTC and the Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Composition and Optical Radiation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Anhui Meteorological Society.
