Introduction
On behalf of the Steering Committee, of the Organizing Committee and of the Scientific Committee, I am glad to welcome all participants to the sixteenth edition of ICEAA, and to the fourth edition of IEEE APWC, the IEEE-APS Topical Conference on Antennas and Propagation in Wireless Communications. These two conferences share a common organization, registration fee, submission site, workshops and short courses, and social events. These Conferences together have a wide scope, which includes all kinds of advanced applications in Electromagnetics and new technology developments. Broad areas are covered, ranging from Cognitive Radio to Electromagnetic Compatibility and Intentional Electromagnetic Interference, from Antennas, Propagation, and Components Technologies to Radar Cross Section and Asymptotic Techniques, from Electromagnetic Applications to Biomedicine to Computational Electromagnetics, from Wireless Communications to Metamaterials. The two conferences altogether feature 36 sessions including 25special sessions organized by renowned experts. The ICEAA 2014Conference program consists of 25sessions including 18 Special Sessions; the IEEE APWC 2014Conference program consists of 11 sessions including 7 Special Sessions. About 250 papers are scheduled, out of the 442submitted. As in previous editions invited papers will be presented at the two Conferences, giving recent information on the state of the art and new technologies. A half-day short course on “Optimal antenna currents using MoM and convex optimization” will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 3, by Prof. Mats Gustafsson of the Lund University, Sweden. The Conferences, organized by the Politecnico di Torino and by the University of Illinois at Chicago, are technically supported by the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella and by the Torino Wireless Foundation, with the principal co-sponsorship of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society and the technical cosponsorship of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI). The Conferences are held at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa, Palm Beach, Aruba, from August 3 to 8, 2014. Aruba is a happy island full of history, culture, rugged landscapes, and exotic local dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity to venture off the sand and check out fun attractions; I am sure you will enjoy them. We look forward to seeing you in Palm Beach, Aruba, in August.
